Guild Software has announced that a new maintenance version of the Vendetta Online 1.8 cross-platform 3D space combat massively multiplayer online role-playing game is now available for download.
According to the release notes, Vendetta Online 1.8.360 improves the efficiency and quality of the glow effect based on the Kawase filter, requires SSE2 support on Microsoft Windows operating systems for faster performance, and removes the loading progress bar that appeared under the Guild logo during startup. Moreover, it addresses an error with the ice crystal rendering, which occurred when attempting to change the resolution of the screen in DirectX 11 mode.
“One important change here is that the Windows/PC version of the game now requires support for the SSE2 instruction set. This has been a feature of all new computers for over a decade, so we don’t expect it to be a problem for anyone. Still, if you have a particularly old machine and still want to run the game, we recommend installing Linux, and running the 32-bit Linux version of Vendetta Online,” reads the announcement.
Next-gen Oculus Rift support still in development
On the other hand, the Vendetta Online developers are still working around the clock to update the Beta Oculus Rift support, which currently requires them to optimize the overall performance and the graphical stack. They need to do a lot of modifications to achieve the best possible framerate before attempting to update the game for the next-generation Oculus Rift.
Now that Guild Software’s modified-Gaussian filter has been replaced, Vendetta Online will offer better fidelity at a higher framerate. Vendetta Online 1.8.360 is now available as an update for all existing users. New players can get the 30-day trial from the project’s website, where they can find binary packages for the Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, Android, and iOS operating systems.
