Guild Software announced the release of a new maintenance update for their popular and cross-platform Vendetta Online MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) 3D space combat title.
According to the release notes, Vendetta Online 1.8.385 is an important milestone, and it’s here to drastically improve the chat and effect delays reported by users during larger capship battles by implementing a new dynamic server packet-queuing and priority change system, which was tested internally with 200 close-proximity capships per battle.
“The new server changes are pretty interesting, as they open the door for larger battle events, with the eventual goal of player contention for territory in the expanded universe. We plan to do some big events to help test this in the near future,” reads the announcement. “Prioritization only dynamically scales with larger numbers of ships per sector, so less populated regions and sectors are unaffected.”
VR Mode improvements, bug fixes
Among other noteworthy changes implemented in the Vendetta Online 1.8.385 update, we can mention a new customizable button or key, currently set for the right-click mouse button, for looking around in the simulated VR mode, and the removal of the dark background of the HUD notification text when not using the VR mode.
There are also various bug fixes, such as those Lua errors that occurred when joining a group while Voice Chat is enabled, or when capship owners launched their fighter while manned to a turret. For Mac OS X users, there’s better support for the new OpenGL 4 video driver as keyboard and mouse inputs won’t be dropped anymore.
To enhance the performance of the game with higher peak player counts, the Guild Software developers also managed to change the distribution of services within the game-server cluster in the Vendetta Online 1.8.385 update, which is now available for Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, Android, and iOS operating systems.
