On Thursday (14/8), Google officially launched Gemini Live, an AI assistant that can engage in conversations with users, during the Made by Google event.
Gemini Live was first introduced at the I/O 2024 conference in May. Now, this feature is officially available to become a conversational partner for users.
Unfortunately, not everyone can use this AI assistant. Google launched Gemini Live on Gemini Advanced, a paid version of Google’s AI.
A New Era in Conversational AI
Gemini Live represents a significant leap forward in conversational AI. Users can now engage in conversations with the AI, rather than just asking questions and receiving answers. Previously, AI assistants were limited to interacting in a question-and-answer format.
“We’re excited to launch Gemini Live, which will start rolling out tomorrow, and will be available to all Gemini Advanced users across all devices. The rollout may take a week or two to complete, but it will be available on all Android phones with Gemini Advanced,” said Amar Subramanya, VP of Engineering at Google during an exclusive Virtual Roundtable on Gemini News on Wednesday (13/8).
“We’ll start with English in Gemini Advanced, and more languages will follow soon,” he added.
A Demo of Gemini Live
During the virtual roundtable session, Amar demonstrated Gemini Live by asking the AI to speak to the attendees.
“Hello everyone out there. I’m thrilled to meet all of you, even if it’s just through my voice. I hope I can meet your expectations and you’ll enjoy learning about me,” said Gemini.
Amar occasionally interrupted Gemini’s speech, and Gemini responded by pausing and listening to Amar’s comments.
Gemini Live: A Conversational AI that Can Understand Context
One of the impressive features of Gemini Live is its ability to understand context. The AI can engage in conversations that are more natural and human-like, rather than just providing straightforward answers.
“AI has come a long way in recent years, but conversational AI is still a relatively new area of research,” said Amar during the demo. “We’re excited to see how users will interact with Gemini Live and provide feedback on how we can improve it.”
Availability and Pricing
Gemini Live is available exclusively on Gemini Advanced, which is a paid version of Google’s AI. The pricing for Gemini Advanced has not been officially announced yet, but it is expected to be competitive with other AI-powered virtual assistants on the market.
The Future of Conversational AI
With the launch of Gemini Live, Google is taking a significant step forward in conversational AI research. As AI technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see more advanced and natural language processing capabilities emerge.
“Conversational AI has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with technology,” said Amar during the demo. “We’re excited to be at the forefront of this research and to bring these capabilities to our users.”
Conclusion
Gemini Live is a significant milestone in conversational AI research, and its launch marks an exciting new era for Google’s AI-powered virtual assistants. With its ability to understand context and engage in natural conversations, Gemini Live has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with technology.
As AI technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see more advanced and natural language processing capabilities emerge. The future of conversational AI looks bright, and Google is at the forefront of this research.
