In an official statement through its @googleindonesia account on the social media platform X on Tuesday (13/8/2024), Google acknowledged that the issue was real and being addressed.
“Our policy is clear, suggested changes to data must be based on accurate information. Our team works around the clock to combat activities that violate this policy,” read Google’s statement on X.
Google also identified a technical issue that resulted in changes to information on several Google My Business profiles.
Currently, corrective measures are being implemented to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) previously revealed that on Sunday (11/8/2024), several hotels across Indonesia fell victim to fake data on Google My Business.
PHRI Chairman Hariyadi BS Sukamdani said the hacking incident occurred in many areas, including East Java, Central Java, and other regions.
In response to the incident, PHRI’s central management plans to report the fake data incident to the police through local chapters.
Hariyadi also warned the public to make hotel reservations through official channels to avoid potential scams.
